How To Save Money During Full-Time Travel
Introduction
Traveling the world is one of the best ways to learn about ourselves, our cultures, and our planet. But it can also be really expensive! Luckily, I’ve been able to travel full-time for eight years now on a budget of less than $50 per day. Here’s how:
Travel with a partner.
Traveling with a partner is a great way to save money. You can split the cost of hotels and other travel expenses, share the cost of food and entertainment, and even split the cost of transportation and souvenir purchases.
Stay in hostels instead of hotels.
Staying in hostels is a great way to save money, especially if you’re traveling alone. It’s also a fun way to meet people and make friends! If you’re not used to staying in hostels, then it might take some getting used to. But once you’ve gotten over your initial hesitation or fears (like the thought of sleeping next door to someone who snores), then there are many benefits:
- You can save money on food by cooking with other travelers in the common kitchen area or hanging out at their place instead of eating out every day
- You don’t have to worry about cleaning up after yourself
Don’t buy souvenirs you’ll only throw away later.
You know what’s a waste of money? Souvenirs.
I know, I know: souvenirs are a big part of the travel experience. But if you’re traveling on a budget and trying to save every penny, then buying things just because they’re “cool” or “fun” is not going to help your cause. You will find yourself spending more on souvenir purchases than any other part of your trip–and that’s not good news for anyone!
Here are some reasons why you should avoid buying souvenirs:
Eat food from local markets, restaurants and bakeries.
- Eat food from local markets, restaurants and bakeries.
- Eat more fruits and vegetables.
- Buy food in bulk when possible.
Use public transportation.
When you’re on the road, public transportation is a great way to save money and see more of your destination. In most cities, taxis and car services can be expensive–especially if you’re traveling with others. Public transportation also allows you to go where you want when you want, which makes it easier for solo travelers who want to spend their time exploring rather than driving from place to place.
As an added bonus: public transit allows for some great opportunities for meeting locals! You’ll often find yourself sitting next someone who speaks another language than yours (and maybe even learning some new words), all while saving money on gas–and parking fees if applicable–and insurance costs associated with owning/renting a car in whatever city or town where your travels take place
Visit free attractions like parks and art galleries (and stay for a few hours!).
If you’re on a budget and want to save money while traveling, consider visiting some of the free attractions around you. Museums, art galleries and parks are all fantastic ways to spend an afternoon. You can get a feel for the place without spending any money at all! If you decide to stay longer than just an hour or two, there is so much information available online regarding these attractions that it will be easy for you to plan out how much time each one deserves in your day.
You could even make it into something more adventurous by hiking through nature trails at a state park or biking around town on bike paths during the summer months (or winter months if that’s what works best). It would be fun too if there were people who wanted company along their travels; maybe someone could go kayaking/canoeing together sometime as well?
Skip the car service and use Lyft or Uber instead.
The biggest argument against Uber and Lyft is that they’re not as safe as a taxi. But I’ve never felt unsafe with either service, and both companies have a lot of safety features built in–like GPS tracking, driver ratings and vehicle inspections.
Uber also has an app that makes it easy to request rides from your phone if you don’t have cash on hand (and no one will expect payment when you’re traveling). The app tells you how far away your driver is in real time, so there’s no need for awkward silence in the backseat while waiting for them to arrive at your location after dropping off another passenger nearby.
Search for promo codes before booking plane tickets, accommodations and other travel-related services.
While you’re planning your trip, search for promo codes before booking plane tickets and accommodations.
- Go to Groupon or Travelzoo and look for deals in the area you’ll be visiting.
- When you find something you like, sign up for their email list so that they can send you notifications about future promotions.
- When you’re ready to book your flight or hotel room, use one of these promo codes at checkout: “FREETRAVEL” for $10 off flights booked through JetBlue Airways; “SAVE10” for 10{a6d4e250f4dbd7c38290d51a301669b0b15c2bd58d8474132f85a8137f152abc} off Airbnb reservations; or “HOTEL20OFF” which gives 20{a6d4e250f4dbd7c38290d51a301669b0b15c2bd58d8474132f85a8137f152abc} off hotels booked on Hotels.com
It’s possible to travel without going broke!
It’s possible to travel without going broke!
Traveling can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. You can still see the world and have fun while saving money. You don’t need to sacrifice your style or comfort just because you want to save some cash on your next vacation.
Here are some tips for saving money when traveling:
- Stay in hostels instead of hotels (and skip AirBnB). Hostels are cheaper than hotels, but offer similar amenities like Wi-Fi and breakfast included in their rates. Plus they usually come with other perks like free tours and city guides from fellow travelers who stay there as well!
- Eat at local restaurants instead of eating out at touristy places all day long – this will help keep costs down while still giving you plenty of options within walking distance from wherever it is that you’re staying at any given moment throughout any given day/night cycle since most cities tend not only have plenty good food options available locally anyway but also offer many different types too ranging anywhere between “fine dining” establishments featuring upscale cuisine served by professional chefs trained overseas through prestigious culinary schools located outside our country borders all way down into simple eateries offering quick bites such as burgers & fries served alongside soda drinks sold by waitresses dressed up like American cowgirls working double shifts because no one else showed up tonight either due mostly likely due lack interest level generated by recent news stories surrounding alleged misconducts committed against female employees working overtime hours without paychecks issued timely enough before payday arrives next month hence causing financial distress among families trying desperately hold onto hope despite mounting debts piling up higher every day now threatening foreclosure notices being issued soon unless homeowners act quickly escape living paycheckless lives forevermore
Conclusion
Traveling is an amazing experience, but it can also be expensive. By following these tips you’ll be able to save money and still have the trip of your dreams!
